A Fall ‘Made-in-China’

Last October I was walking all over It...

Now the leaves come stiff
cut out of nylon rolls
glued to plastic branches
and spray-painted desperately to sing

These leaves don’t carry summer's kiss
or bear the caress of spring
they are manufactured to perfection
to sit up and not crumble
to please Insta-people's needs

When my eager hands pick them up
from shelves disguised
to feel like a walk in the woods
I weave dreams of my own

And I rely on the memories of
a wide sweep of a window
sitting in front of which
I had once known Fall
in its manic hues —
the feisty reds
the impatient Bronzes
the unhurried greens
the unfettered tangerines...

And therefore I indulge
my stubborn heart
that doesn’t quite give up
and would rather have
a synthetic Fall
For a token Fall
after al
is still better
than no Fall at all :)

Reign of Love

Lashing against the earth
Like a release of pent-up anger
It turns into breathless kisses
When it hits my lanai

Like a reckless Romeo
Its arrows wreak havoc on my plants,
From a corner I sit and watch
This robust love of youth

It soaks up my faux green grass
And my delicate pinwheel trembles in fear,
But what does the summer rain care,
For so selfish it is in its affair!

Memories like Luggage

Bulging on the sides
of our longings
Bursting at the seams
of our yearnings
Hefty and painful
light and playful
Lugged through swanky airports
dragged across grimy stations
hurled under narrow berths
tossed inside overhead cabinets
cling to us like shadow
our memories...
Behind every masked smile
behind every single mile
After every heaving goodbye
and every promise of visit to try
sob in heaps our memories...
They are our travel companions
these lingering shadows
evading time zones
traversing seas
waiting in security lines
they follow us everywhere
trudging for miles and miles...

What would you do?

When your hair would grey
And memory fade
When your smug face
Would wilt away
When your ivory tower
Would start to chip
When loneliness would
Stealthily creep
When days would stink
And seasons go dry
When your grieving heart
Would need to cry
A friend is what
You would have to try
But would you still choose
To choke but not sigh?
What. On. Earth. Would. You. Do?
When your time would bid goodbye to you.....?

Evening Stroll

Swept
by a gust of cool wind
hair lashing
against your beaming face
Your cheeks -
A rosy pink
Soaring high
your hopeful spirits
Hair Fluttering
off your messy knot
Reaching the sky
your dreamy head
Your hand caressing
the  playful breeze
Your peachy frock
jostling with the sweep
A flower here, a butterfly there,
ever so distracting
Keeping you busy
like your favorite bee
in the book of poetry.

Souls like Flowers

Flowers -
Sleeping wearily
like our battered souls
Lying next to each other
on strips of grass
that look like
a toddler's hair
Soon to be swept away
by the billowing wind
but not before
whispering
their little secrets
in the air.

Dogwood flowers

Petals
like the color of heart
float dreamily
like wings of a fairy
hang with bated breath
some place between
the meadow and the mist
A lot like 'hope' some say
challenging the throes
of everyday.

Somewhere in Maryland

Mountains

Mountains dazzling
under a fiery sun
like a ruler's crown
encrusted in gold
Strings of them
stand defiantly
challenging the ruins of time
Looking down mockingly
at empires that fade under it
Reminding us
of our trivial designs
Bursting like bubble gum
our giant egos
Pricking like thistles
our petty plans
They stand there watching
our spectacular falls
like heaps of rubbles
A spec of dust
our dreams
